Elden Ring received a lot of love when it launched in February, and many players prepared enough Elden Ring Runes in advance for more fun. Even those who weren’t interested in the Souls series couldn’t help but get interested in The Lands Between. Elden Ring was so popular that it became From Software’s best-selling game of all time.
So many players might think that Elden Ring will be one of the ten most played games of the year, but that’s not the case. Mat Piscatella, executive director of analytics firm The NPD Group and video game industry consultant, found by ResetEra user Sullivan, shared on Twitter the ten most-played games of 2022, according to its long-running PlayerPulse survey. This list shows the most played console and PC games in the US in the first quarter of this year.
As Piscatella points out, half of those games didn’t come out during this decade. Sorted by release year, the top ten includes Minecraft, GTA 5, The Sims 4, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, and both Call of Duty Warzone and Call of Duty: Vanguard. Surprisingly, From Software’s latest entry came in at number 20. According to Piscatella, Skyrim, Rocket League, and World of WarCraft are all ranked higher.
One reason for the unexpectedly low ranking of Elden Ring may be that the list covers the first quarter of 2022, which covers the period from January to March. So while most tiles will have three months to grow player counts, Elden Ring’s launch at the end of February means it’s only available for just over a third of that time. And if players still want to try Elden Ring, they can buy Elden Ring Runes at IGGM for an extra edge.
