D&D's Next Adventure Anthology Is Journeys Through The Radiant

  • Wizards of the Coast has announced that the next Dungeons and Dragons adventure anthology will be Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel, which will contain standalone adventures that are tied to a central location, similar to the Candlekeep Mysteries D&D anthology from 2021.

There are lots of DMs who like to create their own homebrew D&D crusade worlds, with their own specially crafted adventures. These take a lot of time to develop, so some DMs choose to use the authority D&D campaigns created by Wizards of the Coast, such as Curse of Strahd or The Wild Beyond the Witchlight. There are also adventure anthologies that contain short, standalone adventures. These are great for introductory sessions for groups, for instances where the DM doesn't have lots of time to prepare, or for running games at conventions.

The next D&D adventure anthology will be Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel, which is set to send off on June 21, 2022. The book contains thirteen standalone adventures that are connected to a location called the Radiant Citadel, which is a mysterious city in the Ethereal Plane that protects the D&D Material Plane from the Inner Planes. Assuming the adventures are run as a single mission, they will take players from levels 1-14, as the first adventure will take them to even out 3.

Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel is co-led by Ajit George (writer on Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft) and F. Wesley Schneider (Senior Game Designer in the D&D Team at Wizards). George pitched the first idea for a D&D book where every one of the writers are POC, with adventures based on their own lives, different myths, and genuine cultures. These include the "Shadow of the Sun" adventure, which includes elements from Persian mythology. The Radiant Citadel can act as a home base for players, giving D&D groups their own stronghold where they can rest between adventures. It will offer a safe shelter from their foes, but it's still a location that is filled with wizardry, making it dangerous in other ways.

The book contains gazetteers for the citadel, thirteen locations tied to the adventures, and two additional lands., which can all be added for homebrew games, or connected to existing D&D settings. The thirteen adventures shift in difficulty and tone, providing DMs with a lot of different options for their campaigns. The D&D adventure anthologies have been famous with groups around the world, and Journeys Through the Radiant Citadel will allow DMs and players the opportunity to encounter all new kinds of adventures across D&D's steadily expanding multiverse.
